Who we serve

When you think about your program of work, what keeps you awake at night?

Major capital investments in the upstream energy industry are fraught with risk. That’s the nature of the game. But when you’re dealing with feats of engineering on this scale, complexity quickly tips the balance towards overruns, blown budgets and increased risk of incidents. We work with executives to put a hand on the scales and bring more certainty to your projects.

You own the rights to upstream production and want assurance you can deliver your projects on time and budget—and to the quality you promised.

We enable large, complex feats of engineering to succeed

What’s in a name?

In 2000, Mark Thompson completed his part on the Transocean Spirit and Deep Seas projects, which created the oil and gas industry’s first dual-activity, ultradeepwater drillships. This pioneering feat of engineering involved the complex installation of single towers and twin drill floors and equipment that dramatically reduced drilling times in deep waters.

Inspired by the idea that he could help other complex engineering projects to succeed, Mark left Transocean to found Epeus, named for the Greek who designed the Trojan Horse—a singular engineering feat that brought the Trojan war to an end. Knowing that megaprojects are fraught with risk, Mark built the consultancy around project risk management. The original Epeus himself was not a great warrior. Yet through his vision and acumen, he enabled victory.

With Epeus at your side, you can secure your reputation.
